About

gestalt therapy by julien joly galway

Throughout his career, Julien’s interest in the relationship between body-mind-spirit/environment has led him to increase and sharpen his listening skills in all these areas. He has developed a unique approach to working with his clients based on his understanding that core beliefs, together with stressful thoughts and strong emotions are all factors which can affect and alter the body, it’s energy systems and its structures.

Over the past 20 years Julien Joly has practised therapeutic principles of deep listening, unconditional positive regard, and inclusion with his clients. He has integrated Gestalt Psychotherapy into his existing practice and he continues to develop and expend his knowledge.

Background

Julien’s journey with Pilates began in 1986 when he studied ‘Body Control Pilates’ at the Pineapple Studios in London. This provided him with unequalled support prior to his 3 year intensive dance course with The Ballet Rambert School in London.

Julien’s dance career matured and unfolded successfully over the course of 10 years in London and the UK. Around 1996 he started a 3 year course with The British School of Shiatsu-Do.

Julien trained in Fitness with the YMCA and worked for three years as a Gym Instructor and Exercise Counselor. He also taught Contemporary dance in Colleges and to professional dancers in London.

Shortly after qualifying in Shiatsu in 2000, Julien left London and moved to Galway (in the West of Ireland) where he developed his clinic.

In addition to his therapeutic skills and knowledge of the body, Julien studied Pilates to a professional standard with Joyce Gavin (at Bodyfirm Pilates Studios) a leader in the Pilates industry in Ireland.

In 2004-2005 Julien learned the art of Reiki and received the title of Reiki Master and Teacher. Further to Reiki, he studied reflexology for a year.

In 2007 Julien did a 2 year post-graduate course in Shin So Shiatsu with Shiatsu Master Tetsuro Saito. This novel approach in conjunction with Traditional Shiatsu brought more clarity to his understanding of conditions and the energy system.

In 2010-2015 Julien studied Gestalt Psychotherapy with the Gestalt Institute of Ireland. He graduated from the course in July 2015 and since then he is practising psychotherapy.

Julien is currently completing his Masters Degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy with the Institute of Technology Carlow.
