What is Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a hands-on body Massage/Therapy from Japan. Influenced by Chinese medicine and western knowledge, it is sometimes referred to as Japanese physiotherapy. Shiatsu translates into English as finger pressure. It is a Holistic Therapy in its approach and works on the body, the mind and the spirit.

What is Shin So Shiatsu

Shin So Shiatsu translate into English as “deeper level Shiatsu” and is the result of three decades of research and practice by Shiatsu Master Tetsuro Saito. It is based on the legacy of Master Masunaga’s work, Dr. Irie’s Finger Test Method and a system of sound diagnosis. All together they unify into a detailed, practical, and accurate method of diagnosing and treating clients.

Shiatsu Back Treatment

Shiatsu a brief History

Shiatsu has its roots in a traditional Oriental Medical Massage called Amma. In the early 20th century, western anatomy and physiology were introduced to its practice. The fusion of new knowledge and existing techniques created what Shiatsu is today: a comprehensive, effective and respected Massage Therapy. Officially recognised in Japan in the 1950s, Shiatsu has played a crucial part in Complementary Medicines throughout the world and in Ireland for many decades.

How Traditional Shiatsu works

The focus of a treatment is on balancing the movement of energy and to address the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of a person.
Using principals from Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu works with energy channels (or meridians) and their related pressure points. Their use stimulates and re-balances the flow of the body’s vital energy system. Depending on the condition, the constitution and the needs of the client, the pressure applied during a treatment can vary from light to deep.

Additional Techniques Julien can use during a treatment to release energy blockages:

    • Adequate stretching techniques such as MET “Muscle Energy Technique” and AIS “Active Isolated Stretching”.
    • The use of relevant pressure points.
    • Palming or thumbing of a meridian.
    • Gentle manipulation to loosen up muscles and joints
    • vertebrae alignment (no cracking of bones is involved).
    • hip alignment.
    • Sacroiliac joint release.
    • Symmetry balancing.
    • breathing techniques.
    • cranio sacral techniques.
    • fascia release.

Energy

“Energy creates structure”. It is now a fundamental fact recognised by science and quantum physique. It has been a truth known in the East for many thousands of years. Energy supports, holds, contains, travels, feeds, moves, transforms, creates, grows, communicates... Our health relies on energy to move freely around the body. Our system functions and is regulated from different sources of energy: Prenatal energy we inherit from our parents, energy from food, energy from the air we breathe, the sun, and cosmic energy.

Blockages or imbalance of energy in the body will show up as feeling unwell (tension, stress, joints or muscular stiffness, pain, swelling, redness, headaches, breathlessness, cough, blocked sinuses, palpitation, insomnia, depression...) to illness and disease.

Here Are A Few Examples Of Factors That Will Lead To Imbalance:

    • Stress (a general term that is usually related to an emotion).
    • Injuries, accidents.
    • lack of or too much sleep.
    • inadequate diet.
    • consumption of stimulant: alcohol, drugs, (sometimes coffee and tea).
    • lack or too much exercise.
    • too much work, job demands or lack of.
    • too much sex or not enough.
    • excess cold, dampness, heat.
    • viruses, bacteria, food poisoning.
    • heightened emotions.
