What to Expect

Most people come for Shiatsu Massage to address specific ailments. Some people come mainly for relaxation, and some people come to me for emotional, psychological and spiritual interactive guidance. For an efficient recovery the focus of a treatment is on balancing the movement of energy. Most people will experience deep relaxation at some stage during a session, and many people go into deep sleep.

Shiatsu Clinic Room

Practically all my Shiatsu treatments begin with a diagnosis on the abdomen or on the back. This diagnosis informs me about my client’s energy system and the depth of its imbalance. If the condition is serious and the energy is low, I treat the client where the imbalance lies using techniques from Shin So Shiatsu. I work the symptoms first and then I treat the deeper levels of energy imbalance. I then proceed with more traditional Shiatsu by working the meridians, the pressure points and the use of body work to release deep seated tension in muscles and joints. Depending on the condition and the constitution of the person, fingers or palm pressure within a treatment can vary from light to deep. A Shiatsu treatment helps to release stress and leaves the client with a feeling of calmness and well-being.

Shiatsu Back Treatment

All together my sessions can take up to one hour and a half.
The treatment takes place on a comfortable futon (Japanese matress) at floor level. If this is not suitable, the treatment may be given in a chair or on a massage plinth. During the treatment the client remains clothed.

Following the treatment I may recommend exercises and stretches and make suggestions on diet and lifestyle. They are all aimed to support the recovery, the health and well-being of the client between treatments.

The frequency of treatment will vary from person to person, as will the number of sessions.
