About Julien

Julien’s journey with Shiatsu and Pilates began in 1986 when he took his first ballet class in London. Julien was then 24 years old. His ballet teacher suggested that Pilates would help him. His interest in dance grew to a passion, and an audition with a Ballet School was organised. At the age of 25, Julien started a 3 year intensive course in Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

During the course, Julien was introduced to Shiatsu through a Dancer/Shiatsu Therapist who had come to the school to help the students with their techniques. Julien witnessed a treatment given to a friend after he had injured his back during a dance class. His friend’s prompt recovery was astonishing as he suffered from chronic back problems.

Julien’s dance career matured successfully in London and the UK. Around 1996 he felt a need for change and the transition from the performing arts to Shiatsu gently took place. To support himself during his 3 year course in Shiatsu, Julien trained in Fitness and worked as a Gym Instructor, Exercise Counselor and taught dance.

Shortly after qualifying in Shiatsu in 2000, Julien left London and moved to Galway in the West of Ireland. A more peaceful and harmonious place for him to further his self-development and build a clinic. In addition to his therapeutic skills, Julien brought his knowledge of Pilates to a professional standard with the teaching of Joyce Gavin, a leader in the Pilates industry. In 2004 he learned the art of Reiki and became a Reiki Master and Teacher. To extend his knowledge he studied reflexology for a year.

In 2007 Julien met Shiatsu Master Tetsuro Saito with whom he learned Shin So Shiatsu. This novel approach in conjunction with traditional shiatsu was what he had been waiting for. It provided him with more clarity, a more precise understanding of his clients’ energy system, and consistent results.

Throughout his career, Julien’s interest in the relationship between body/mind/spirit has led him to increase and sharpen his listening skills. As an extension to bodywork and Reiki, Julien offers (if appropriate and relevant) emotional, psychological and spiritual interactive guidance/coaching. His work is based on the knowledge that stressful thoughts and strong emotions affect and alter our energy system as much as back pain, injuries or lifestyle (see “How emotions affect the body” in Specific Conditions.).

Julien brings a unique form of Integrated Energy and Bodywork Therapy to people. He welcomes you to his clinic and looks forward to working with you.
